# Use TapKit Shortcut

> Install or upgrade the Use TapKit shortcut on your iPhone

Install or upgrade the **Use TapKit** shortcut that lets TapKit run shortcut-powered actions on your iPhone.

## Overview

The **Use TapKit** shortcut exposes iOS Shortcut functionality to TapKit agents. Instead of installing a separate shortcut for every action, you install one shortcut and TapKit tells it which action to run.

This makes some actions more efficient and gives TapKit a way to add new phone capabilities over time. For example, TapKit can use the shortcut for opening URLs and reading text from the iPhone clipboard.

## Shortcut Versions

The **Use TapKit** shortcut is versioned starting May 4, 2026. The latest version is version 1.0.1, released on May 4, 2026.

Shortcuts are distributed through Apple's Shortcuts app, so they do not upgrade automatically. When TapKit ships new shortcut-powered actions, you may need to replace your existing shortcut with the latest version.

For example, version 1.1.0 adds support for opening URLs and grabbing text from the iPhone clipboard.

## Upgrade Your Shortcut

If you already set up TapKit, upgrade by installing the latest **Use TapKit** shortcut and replacing the old one.

<Warning>
  If you have multiple phones on TapKit, repeat this upgrade for each phone. Each phone has its own token and shortcut configuration.

  </Step>

  <Step title="Replace the Old Shortcut">
    When iOS asks what to do with the existing shortcut, choose **Replace**. This is important: replacing keeps TapKit pointed at the upgraded shortcut instead of leaving you with duplicates.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Paste the Token">
    When prompted, paste the token you copied from TapKit.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Run the Shortcut Once">
    Open the Shortcuts app, run **Use TapKit**, and approve any permission prompts that appear.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  If iOS creates a duplicate shortcut instead of replacing the old one, delete the older **Use TapKit** shortcut and keep the newly installed version.
</Note>

## Shortcut Ordering

<Warning>
  The **Use TapKit** shortcut must be the **first shortcut** in your Shortcuts app for the automation to work correctly.
</Warning>

If you have other shortcuts installed, you'll need to reorder them so **Use TapKit** appears first:

1. Open the **Shortcuts** app on your iPhone
2. Tap **Edit** in the top corner
3. Drag the **Use TapKit** shortcut to the first position
4. Tap **Done**

<Note>
  If you add new shortcuts later, remember to check that **Use TapKit** is still in the first position. Newly created shortcuts may change the ordering.
</Note>

## Troubleshooting

### Shortcut not working

Verify that:

* The **Use TapKit** shortcut is in the **first position** in your Shortcuts app
* You entered the correct token during setup
* You selected the correct phone on the setup page

### Wrong phone selected

If you're seeing errors about the phone not being found, you may have installed the shortcut for a different phone. Visit [tapkit.ai/shortcut](https://tapkit.ai/shortcut), select the correct phone, and reinstall the shortcut.
